Due to the distance of our mental health community, the podcast needs to make adjustments. Distances range from a different time zone to across the pond. This leads to difficulty coordinating times to do interviews. From this point on, Mental Snapback Podcast will be taking requests to write and will be reaching out to individuals for writing, and these writings will be read on the podcast with occasional responses to what has been written.

The below format is just a suggestion and any organizational structure for your essay is also acceptable.

Note: Mental Snapback reserves the right to produce your material electronically, including podcasts and e-books.

How to:

  • Introduction:
    • Begin with a short bio. No more than 100 words.
  • Part 1:
    • Provide a description of your mental illness and the date of onset. Acute illness is as valid as chronic. If the illness is acute, speculate what was the cause (short-term and long-term).
    • Write about two experiences that you faced that were extreme obstacles for you.
      • Experience 1
        • Talk about the barrier. This can be reflective writing or narrative writing. Your choice!
        • Talk about how you overcome this barrier or how you are working to overcome it.
      • Experience 2
        • Talk about the barrier. This can be reflective writing or narrative writing. Your choice!
        • Talk about how you overcome this barrier or how you are working to overcome it.
  • Part 2:
    • Reflection
      • How do you feel you have grown?
      • Who has helped you be successful as you recover?
  • Conclusion
    • Advice you would give yourself and to others!

I’ll check for any submissions to samantha.mentalsnapback@gmail.com once a week on Friday! Be honest! Be vulnerable! Your story matters.
